Morrowind is the third installment in the Elder Scrolls series. The game takes place on the island of Vvardenfell, a district in the Dunmeri province of Morrowind. It is smaller in scope than the previous games in the main series, Daggerfall and Arena, yet much more detailed.
This epic, open-ended RPG allows for a wide variety of character designs and play styles. The game continues to be sold on store shelves ten years after its initial release, partially due to the widespread mod community which has the potential to supply Morrowind with new content in perpetuity. Trying out these fixes worked and brought my outdoor FPS from 10-15 FPS to a stable 30-40, which is nothing to write home about, but it brings the game from stutterfest to perfectly playable. I play vanilla regularly, but when I want something more, I'll install mgso and then install textures on top of it (especially new heads).

Makes it pretty easy to get a really modern-looking experience that doesn't stray too far from vanilla if you know what you're doing. So I always recommend it for people who don't like vanilla or just want a different experience. Even people who love vanilla like I do can benefit. Where are you downloading the mod from? Try out different mirrors.
If that doesn't work, try a different compression tool. Also, make sure you extract them into the game folder. Mine for example is: C: Program Files (x86) Steam SteamApps common Morrowind Edit: While I used the Nexus mirror and it worked perfectly, it should be noted that download speeds leave something to be desired as uncapped speeds are for premium members. So if you're attempting to re-download over and over it may not be the best mirror as it's a large file.
